"RESILIENCE" THE DOCUMENTARY

Telling Veteran's Stories

Humanity Pictures has partnered with award winning producer and director, Nicole Amelio-Casper and Amelio Media Productions as she puts together the follow up to her award winning documentary, "The Journey Back to Normal",  which highlighted the therapies used to help veterans deal with the trauma of war as they battle to keep their lives on the right path.

"RESILIENCE" looks further at some of the actual experiences of veterans during their time in the military, and the efforts they've had to make in order to push through their challenges and live productive lives.  But their stories don't stop there.  These veterans also found the "resilience" to open pathways by creating their own organizations to help other veterans who are struggling from past experiences during their service as well.

Filming started in March of 2022, so visit often to see promos and other behind the scenes photos, to get a glimpse of our journey and the filming process!  Also, visit the RESILIENCE Facebook page as well for additional updates!

RESILIENCE: warriors rise - The story of the black knights

Resilience: Warriors Rise - The Docuseries

RESILIENCE - Warriors Rise is a deeply human documentary about the soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment during the brutal May, 2006 deployment—one of the most consequential and deadly rotations of the Iraq War. The battalion lost 18 soldiers in theater, but the losses did not end there. Since returning home in 2008, at least 33 more have died, most by suicide. More than fifty fathers, sons, brothers, and friends are now gone—casualties of both the battlefield and the invisible war that followed.

This documentary confronts that full reality: the courage of the mission, the trauma carried home, the families left to make sense of it, and the veterans who continue to fight for one another long after the shooting stopped. RESILIENCE!

Through intimate interviews, immersive visuals, and a narrative shaped by the voices of the men who lived it, RESILIENCE - Warriors Rise shows how 1–5 Cav’s actions changed the strategic landscape in Baghdad and altered the course of the war. The battalion’s success—hard-fought and costly—helped halt Al Qaeda’s campaign of terror during one of the deadliest periods of the conflict, saving countless Iraqi and American lives.

Yet the story is not just about a victory abroad—it’s about the battles that followed at home.

The documentary seeks to give soldiers something many have never heard clearly:
“You won. You made a difference. What you did mattered.”

Families, who often absorb the weight of PTSD, moral injury, depression, and survivor’s guilt, will gain a window into where that pain originates. While nothing can fully convey the chaos, horror, and moral complexity of combat, RESILIENCE - Warriors Rise aims to bridge the gap—offering perspective, context, and space for long overdue conversations.

For civilians, the film opens a rarely seen chapter of the Iraq War. It shows what America’s soldiers did for the people of Baghdad during a desperate time—and how they continue to serve one another today. Many of those who fought through the worst moments now lead peer support groups, advocate for mental health, and hold up their fellow veterans with a resilience forged in the harshest conditions imaginable.

This is more than a war story.
It is a story of sacrifice—and of survival.
A story of loss—and of the brotherhood that refuses to fade.
A story of men who carry scars, but who carry each other too.

Resilience - Warriors Rise honors the fallen, supports the living, and reveals the truth of a battalion that changed a war—and is still fighting to heal.
