We are pretty familiar with the four seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. Like clockwork, they come around on the same days, without fail every year. Interestingly, in the Buddhist tradition, there’s a concept called, “Winter always turns into Spring,” which is a reminder that, regardless of the challenge, if you don’t give up, spring time is guaranteed, and that season of “spring” can happen anytime during the year; it’s up to you.
Humanity Pictures is developing a short series called “Winning Season”, which plays off this empowering concept, and highlights stories of human victories where people have not given up, and have transformed their challenges into a season of winning! The title of the series comes from Melissa Morales, a Camden, New Jersey native, who has her own story of victory. She battled and overcame postpartum depression, and made the decision that she was going to live a life of winning, and started a campaign called, “Winning Season!”
We had started filming, but still had not found a name for the series. It was during that time that Melissa and I were sitting in an arts center in Camden, and I was eagerly listening to her life story. When she got to the point where she had created her campaign, two things hit me. First, we needed to film and tell her story; and second, the name of her movement was a perfect fit for the series; and Melissa was more than happy, and deeply honored to let us use the name.
To Melissa, I say, “Thank You!”
As I mentioned, we are currently filming the first episode, which is the story of Robert Brickhouse, who overcame his own inner demons to eventually graduate from Villanova University; and there's still more filming to go. But just as Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter always take shape, so too will this new season…
